I Love You Like XO

St. Valentine’s Day is upon us once again, which, for many, means romantic dinners, bouquets of flowers and boxes of chocolate from a special someone. For me, it means a few bottles of red wine and a funny movie with friends. No matter your relationship status, V-Day is a chance to show off your most lovable fashion choices. Here are mine, along with my picks for some pretty impressive gifts, either to yourself or from your boo-thang. (more…)

Baby, It’s Code

On this particularly gloomy day, I thought it best to rock some cool tones. This velveteen blazer is one of my favorite thrift store finds ever, because I love the deep violet color and plush fabric. And it fits me like a glove. I layered the blazer over a simple white shirt from Target, with knit paneling at the collar. The dark jeans are from Old Navy. For jewelry, I opted for my favorite silver necklace (H&M) and a simple silver watch (Nordstrom).

Candy-Coated Raindrops

Autumn is upon us. And the only thing I like more than the night we get to turn our clocks back is the fashion. The difference, though, between fall and winter (although I love them both equally) is that during the former, we’re just trying to bundle up a bit in chilly weather. We’re required to layer our outfits more, which means we have room to improvise with such lovely additives as socks, tights, cardigans, scarves, hats and outerwear. In winter, it’s all about survival. For that reason, I’ve compiled a few of my favorite kinds of jackets and coats for fall. I suggest you stock up on these before it gets too cold. Lucky for me, the sites where I found these pieces had already styled them a bit, so you and I both have a great vantage point to begin putting outfits together from. (more…)

My Mood Board: September

September Mood Board

September marks the begin of my favorite season in fashion. Although the temperatures where I live are currently sweltering, I know that autumn is just on the horizon. Along with the seasonal change, there are dazzling magazine covers, new and fashionable television programs, fierce Fashion Week shows and, in my humble opinion, an all around upgrade in style choices by fashionistas everywhere. It was all of this that inspired me to create my very own mood board for the month. This collage of looks combines my favorites from runway collections, magazine spreads, Tumblr posts, online shops, vintage TV shows and even mixtape covers to create a general aesthetic that I would describe as edgy yet playful, polished yet soft, neutral yet colorful, androgynous yet feminine. The jumble of photos may seem a bit all over the place, but it’s exactly what I was going for, and I’m excited to begin styling from it (and to get out of this heat)! (more…)

Lovers In The Parking Lot

I present to you another OOTD, this time right after work. (Well, right after a nap right after work.) The sun was going down, so I was forced to shoot on my friend’s front porch, which is why there’s an assortment of cars behind me. The setting reminded me of Solange’s song, so I figured I’d just go with it. My top, which is really a shirtdress, is from Target. My cobalt capris are from Target, by way of Goodwill. And my shoes are from Forever 21, from forever ago. (Get it? Ha!) I wasn’t wearing any special jewelry, and I found my sunglasses somewhere randomly. (more…)

Can You Stand The Rain?

This, my first ever Outfit Of The Day, has quite a funny story behind it. Basically, I got dressed in kind of gloomy, neutral colors (’cause that’s how I roll), even though the weather outside was absolutely beautiful. I mean old-school-Windows-2000-background beautiful. Then, I got this bright idea to take advantage of the lovely weather by asking my friend if she’d snap some pictures of me in a nearby park, which is even more beautiful. But by the time I finished getting dressed, doing my makeup, and driving to my friend’s house to scoop her up, it was not only raining cats and dogs, but also striking lightning like once every five seconds within what seemed like a few miles of our houses and the park! So, we ended up trying to dodge raindrops on her back porch to get the shots.

Apparently taking OOTD pictures is a dirty job! (more…)
