I Love You Like XO

St. Valentine’s Day is upon us once again, which, for many, means romantic dinners, bouquets of flowers and boxes of chocolate from a special someone. For me, it means a few bottles of red wine and a funny movie with friends. No matter your relationship status, V-Day is a chance to show off your most lovable fashion choices. Here are mine, along with my picks for some pretty impressive gifts, either to yourself or from your boo-thang. (more…)

The Love Below

This past week, much of the Midwest was frozen solid in a record snow storm. Wind chills reached the negative forties. Entire bodies of water turned to ice. And I had to scrape what felt like pounds of snow from on top of my car. But the weather got me thinking: what are the best wardrobe choices for subzero temperatures? I know the obvious choice is down-filled snowsuits that zip up to your eyelashes. But is there a way to be cute without being cold? (more…)

Isabel Marant x H&M Is Here

The PR wannabe in me always loves it when a high-end fashion house designs for a fast-fashion brand, because it’s like getting a care package of goodies right before Finals Week. It reminds us that they’re listening and that they care. And it challenges this notion that fashion can’t be accessible, wearable and affordable.  When you see a Jessica Alba or a Solange wearing the same Phillip Lim x Target piece as your favorite style blogger (or yourself), it sends a message to consumers that all of those gossip mags have been trying to tell us for years: famous people are just like us!

French designer Isabel Marant has teamed up with H&M to create a collection that will literally be flying off the shelves this holiday season. It’s clean yet fun, structured yet bohemian, simple yet opulent. And it’s perfect for the office Christmas party, a warm night in, snagging those Black Friday buys or watching the ball drop. (more…)

I’m Coming Home Again

This past weekend was my school’s Homecoming, so I had to step it up and step out. (Little Known Fact: My university actually invented Homecoming! MIZ!) My friends and I went out Thursday and Friday night, and we had so much fun! (more…)

Candy-Coated Raindrops

Autumn is upon us. And the only thing I like more than the night we get to turn our clocks back is the fashion. The difference, though, between fall and winter (although I love them both equally) is that during the former, we’re just trying to bundle up a bit in chilly weather. We’re required to layer our outfits more, which means we have room to improvise with such lovely additives as socks, tights, cardigans, scarves, hats and outerwear. In winter, it’s all about survival. For that reason, I’ve compiled a few of my favorite kinds of jackets and coats for fall. I suggest you stock up on these before it gets too cold. Lucky for me, the sites where I found these pieces had already styled them a bit, so you and I both have a great vantage point to begin putting outfits together from. (more…)

My Mood Board: September

September Mood Board

September marks the begin of my favorite season in fashion. Although the temperatures where I live are currently sweltering, I know that autumn is just on the horizon. Along with the seasonal change, there are dazzling magazine covers, new and fashionable television programs, fierce Fashion Week shows and, in my humble opinion, an all around upgrade in style choices by fashionistas everywhere. It was all of this that inspired me to create my very own mood board for the month. This collage of looks combines my favorites from runway collections, magazine spreads, Tumblr posts, online shops, vintage TV shows and even mixtape covers to create a general aesthetic that I would describe as edgy yet playful, polished yet soft, neutral yet colorful, androgynous yet feminine. The jumble of photos may seem a bit all over the place, but it’s exactly what I was going for, and I’m excited to begin styling from it (and to get out of this heat)! (more…)

The Blueprint

The Blueprint

I’m normally a pretty neutral dresser–blacks, whites, grays, browns, denims. But every season, I find myself obsessing over a certain, unusual hue on the color wheel. This past spring, it was tangerine orange. This was especially interesting because, ever since Nickelodeon painted the screen with the plasticky pigment, I’ve hated the color orange. But I found myself inexplicably gravitating toward it in every store. I bought a bright orange blazer and an orange sleeveless top, frequently rocked coral-orange eyeshadow and nail polish, and even bought an orange lipstick.

While I was home for the weekend, I had to make a Forever 21 run. (Since the shopping in my college town is less than limited, it would be a sin not to.) And I stumbled upon this stunning Blue Man Group-colored scarf that I just had to have. I also eyeballed an electric blue cross-body bag, and some royal blue nail polish, and realized, I’ve found my shade for the season: bright, cobalt blue. (more…)
